Project Description and Activities
The “Grunewald” project area is located in Brandenburg (close to the town Grünewald) and Saxony. The area is dominated by pine trees, which will be diversified to a biodiverse mixed forest during the project.
Based on the site conditions and the tree species previously existing in the stand, the mixture of tree species in the target state was decided. Pine, Douglas fir, sessile oak, red oak, and chestnut will be mainly introduced via planting, while beech and black locusts are established through natural regeneration.

Why we need forest adaptation
Storms
Forest areas with many tall and thin trees are more susceptible to storm damage (so-called windthrow). If, in addition, most of the trees in a section of forest are the same height, storms can lead to the loss of entire forest sections.
Forest fires
Wind plays a decisive role in the development of forest fires. In row-planted monocultures, the wind can easily push the fire through the stand, which leads to a faster spread of forest fires.

with the Boscor Group is a pioneer in near-natural permanent forests. With several generations of experience, they manage forests covering over 30,000 hectares.
